Menu Reference

To log into a system, you will need to know three things:

  • The address of the system, such as harper.uchicago.edu
  • The user ID assigned to you by the operator of the system
  • The password assigned to you by the operator of the system

With these in hand, logging in is simple: Launch Crescat by double-clicking on its icon. Crescat will present a terminal window, and a sheet asking you for the system address and your user ID:

Type in the information and press the “OK” button. Crescat will then ask you for your password. If all the information was correct, the terminal screen should now fill with a greeting from the remote system.

Advanced Options

In rare cases, you may need to customize settings for the SSH connection to the remote host. Click the disclosure button disclosure button in the lower-left corner of the login sheet. The sheet will expand to offer more options for the SSH session.
